About Little Bird Rescue

LBR is run by a Registered Veterinary Nurse (NZ) who has additional qualifications as a Certified Veterinary Technician (USA) and an APVN Avian (Advanced Programme in Veterinary Nursing of Avian Species, UK). We also have a permit from the NZ Department of Conservation to hold and care for New Zealand native birds.

We are able to provide a range of care for wild birds (native and introduced) and pet birds in Dunedin, under veterinary direction as/when needed.

Please use the “Contact” page if you need assistance with orphaned or injured wild birds in Dunedin, or if you need help or advice regarding your pet birds.

If your pet bird is injured or displaying signs of illness, please contact your veterinarian directly.

If you find seagulls, ducks, shags, owls, or other larger birds in need of care in the Dunedin area, you can also contact Bird Rescue Dunedin.

If you are in New Zealand and have found a native bird, you can also contact the Department of Conservation (DOC) at 03 477 0677 during working hours, or after working hours call the DOC emergency hotline at 0800 362 468.
